FOLK ROCK

Folk Rock

Folk rock is a sub-genre of rock music that draws heavy influence from folk music. Propelled to the forefront in the mid-1960s when artists like The Byrds started playing traditional folk music and Bob Dylan began adding rock instrumentation to his previously acoustic style, folk rock mixes folk's traditional instruments and acoustic arrangements with rock's electric instruments and harsher sound. Though the majority of folk rock is not "spooky" in the typical Headless Crow sense, the genre offers plenty of artists and songs who tackle decidedly dark subject matter.
