Amsterdam-based folk rock band Zorita, led by singer/songwriter Carlos Zorita Diaz, mix a traditional guitar, bass, and drums rock framework with global inspiration from Mediterranean, Baltic, and Mexican music. Citing Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Leonard Cohen, and Tom Waits as influences, their skeleton-adorned album artwork unsurprisingly houses plenty of dark subject matter: apocalyptic love songs, melancholy sea shanties, traditional murder ballads, sinister stalker anthems, and celebratory acts of debauchery outside the devil's door. With lyrics sung in English, Spanish, French, and Dutch, and songs punctuated by trumpet, trombone, banjo, violin, and accordion, Zorita create their own self-described "musica vagabunda" sound.
