Dark Jazz

Dark jazz, sometimes referred to as doom jazz or jazz noir, is a contemporary sub-genre of jazz music. Film noir soundtracks such as Ascenseur pour l'échafaud by Miles Davis were the earliest source of inspiration for dark jazz artists. Also hugely influential on the genre was the work of composer Angelo Badalamenti. In particular, his scores for Twin Peaks and Blue Velvet had major impacts on the development of dark jazz. Key traits of the genre include a slow tempo and dark tone that together create a mysterious and foreboding mood.
